SoapBox Challenge

We will join together the knowledge and experience of the older generation with the youth to re-create the traditional Soapbox extravaganza of days of old into the modern age. Retirees will be partnered with young people to design and build soap boxes ultimately using the Nintendo Wii game system.

Retirees will contribute their knowledge and skills into designs and best practices using traditional skills in the workshop on scale versions of the carts, before working with the young people to translate this knowledge into the game environment.

This will accumulate into a live competition, pitting man teams from different schools, in a similar vain to the FIRST events, against each other in a race of the scale models and also on a large screen through the Wii system.

Designed to facilitate teamwork and transfer of skills, the young people will be learning traditional skills, whilst the older generation will learn computing and interactive skills from the youth – each can’t be successful without the help of the other.
